Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is a classic novel that describes the journey of an orphan named Pip. The delightful cast in the novel along with its extreme themes like affluence and poverty, love and rejection, good and evil promises an evocative read to the literature lovers.
Summary of the book
The story is set in the first half of the 1800s. With carefully knit comic and tragic twists throughout the novel, it is considered as one of the masterpieces of Charles Dickens. The protagonist Pip is an orphan who is brought up by his intolerant sister and her kind husband Joe. When he is employed by Miss Havisham, Pip meets her niece Estella and falls in love with her. The story eventually makes Pip to change the course of his life. The book is an amusing blend of emotions and is compelling for Dickens’s sheer storytelling cleverness.
