Categories of M.Tech. Students
The Institute admits M.Tech. students under the following categories:
i) REGULAR (FULL -TIME)
These are students who work full-time for their M.Tech. degrees and receive assistantships from the Institute or fellowship from any other recognised funding agency.
ii) SPONSORED (FULL-TIME)
A candidate in this category is sponsored by a recognised R&D organisation, academic institution, governmental organisation or industry for doing MTech in the Institute on a full-time basis. The applicant must be a regular employee of his/her organisation with at least two years of experience at the time of admission and be engaged in professional work in the discipline in which admission is sought. He/She will not receive any financial support from the Institute. Sponsorship letter (Form I, available with the application form) must be attached with the duly filled in application form.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission to M.Tech. Programme
The programme is open to candidates of all categories with Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology / M Sc or equivalent professional degrees (AMIE, etc.) and having a valid GATE score. Note: All regular category candidates (except those having B.Tech. degrees from an IIT with a minimum CPI of 8.0) must possess a valid score of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Candidates seeking admission to M.Tech. Programme of the Institute shall have to possess a minimum of 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale) for General/OBC categories and 55% marks (or a CGPA of 6.0 in 10 point scale) for SC/ST categories in the final qualifying examination. All selected candidates have to produce the certificate with regard to the marks secured in the final qualifying examination by 31-10-2014. Reservation of Seats for SC, ST, OBC (including OBC Minorities) (Non-creamy layer) and PD categories: As per Govt. of India rules. OBC (including OBC Minorities) (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per prescribed format in annexure I, II and III (as applicable) available with the Application form
| Candidates still to appear in their qualifying degree examinations may also apply, provided they appear in all their qualifying degree examinations and complete all requirements for their degrees before 21-07-2014. If selected, such candidates shall be admitted provisionally, and they will have to furnish the results of their qualifying degree examinationslatest by 31-10-2014. Further, they must fulfil the minimum requirements of marks/CGPA/CPI, and other conditions like valid GATE score etc., as mentioned under eligibility criteria for respective programmes. Failure to fulfil any of these requirements, shall automatically result in cancellation of admissionSelection Procedure
Selection is based on performance in GATE and Personal Interview of short-listed candidates. Marks obtained in GATE and in personal interview will have 70% and 30% weightage respectively. Personal interview will be held to test the skills in basic science, engineering, and relevant areas. Personal interviews will be conducted at IIT Patna. Follow the instructions given in the document “Instructions to Candidates”. At the end a final PDF will be generated. You can download it from your registered email address or from your application page.
You are requested to send final submitted application generated online duly signed along with copies of mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials (both sides) and a Demand Draft for Rs. 300/- for General/OBCcandidates and Rs. 150/- for SC/ST/PD and Female candidates drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Patna in favour of IIT Patna and send to the Assistant Registrar(Academic), Indian Institute of Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna – 800 013, Bihar, so as to reach on or before 29-04-2014.Please mark on the top of the envelope, Application for M.Tech. admission in “ Name of the Specialisation ”.
Those applying for more than one specialisation should make separate application for each specialisation.
Selection:
The Institute reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for written test or/ and interview, based on performance in GATE/NET, grades/marks in the qualifying examination, etc.
